Corrupted Digital Voice Editor Installation Solution If you are getting the error message 'unable to start program because the preferences data is destroyed' when you try to run the Sony Digital Voice Editor program, here's the solution to the problem and quickly get it running on your system again. 1. Uninstall the Sony Digital Voice Editor software. Reboot your system if prompted to do so. 2. Open Windows System Restore and create a restore point to back up the Windows Registry. 3. Click on 'Start' then 'Run' and type in 'regedit' then press <Enter> 4. Make sure you are at the top of the registry by clicking on 'My Computer' in the top left corner of the open Regedit program window as in the graphic below. 5. Next, click on 'Edit' then 'Find' and type 'Sony Corporation' into the find box then click on the 'Find Next' button. The Search Box Appears: 6. When the search stops, delete the Registry Key that it stopped on. A few of these will give an 'Access Denied' error message when you try to delete them. When this occurs, right-click on the small open folder on the left and then 'Permissions' to bring the 'Permissions' box up. To the right of 'Full Control' put a checkmark in the 'Allow' box then click 'OK.' Next, delete the key that gave the 'Access Denied' error. 7. Press the 'F3' button on the keyboard to continue searching through the Registry. Delete any key that contains the word 'Sony Corporation.' 8. Once you are sure all keys related to 'Sony Corporation' have been successfully removed from the Registry, you can then reinstall the Digital Voice Editor 2 program from your original installation CD. If you don't have the CD handy, I've put up the entire Digital Voice Editor 2.27 CD contents in a Zip compressed folder to download here. 9. Reboot the system per the program instructions and the Digital Voice Editor 2 program should now work with no problems once you've connected your Sony IC recorder via USB and selected the appropriate model type from the list that pops up the first time it's ran.
