Jabbar Patel directed the English-language movie (also dubbed in Hindi and other Indian languages) Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar about the life of Ambedkar, released in 2000, starring the Indian actor Mammootty as Ambedkar. Sponsored by India’s National Film Development Corporation and the Ministry of Social Justice, the film was released after a long and controversial gestation period. Dr B R Ambedkar is a Kannada historical drama starring Vishnukanth B.J, Thara, Bhavya and Padmavasanthi, directed by Sharan Kumar.
